Are you a follower of Jesus?
What does it mean to be a Christian (or a Jesus follower as we
like to say)?
Does living in America make someone a Christian? Does
being a member of a church, or owning a Bible, or doing all the good
deeds you can do and living a good life make you a Christian?. No, none
of these things do. The Bible, which is God's word to us, says that
there is only one way, and that is to receive Jesus as Savior.
Regarding salvation, the Bible gives us some bad news, and some
really great news. First the bad news - we are all sinners (we do
things that are contrary to God's holy ways). And, the result of our
sins is alienation from God and, after we die, the horrible torment of
hell forever and ever (you see, a holy God must punish sin). But,
wait, it gets even worse - we are helpless to undo this hopeless
condition we are all in. Pretty awful, huh?
But now the good news; in fact the GREAT news. God loves us with a
perfect love. He desires us to know Him and to be with Him forever. But
how can this happen when He must punish us for our sins? Well, He did
the most profound thing imaginable - He came to earth, in the person of
Jesus Christ, to take on the punishment for our sins by dying on the
cross. As He hung on the cross, He was taking our place. He paid our
eternal price so that, when we believe in Him and receive Him as
Savior, we will be forgiven of our sins, be reconciled to Himself, and,
when we die, will have the assurance of being in His wonderful heaven
forever and ever. Is this awesome or what?!?!?
You see, salvation is a free gift from God. We can't earn it, pay
for it, or barter for it. How do you obtain this wonderful free gift?
First, by acknowledging that you are a sinner, confessing these sins to
God, and turning away from them. Then, by receiving Jesus as your
Savior - which means that you believe that Jesus took the punishment
for your sins when He died on the cross and that you are trusting in
Him, and Him alone, for eternal life.
We can't earn our way to heaven, but Jesus purchased our ticket
for us with the price of His own life. What an amazing God and Savior
we have!! Will you receive Jesus as your Savior right now? If you have
